View of Otertind
This rural roadside pullout along Fv321 gives you a straight-on view of Otertind, a dramatically sharp pyramidal peak that rises steeply above the Signaldalselva river valley in the Norwegian Arctic. The mountain's near-perfect triangular profile is what makes it so striking, and the river running through the foreground gives you a natural element to anchor compositions. Try positioning low near the riverbank to include reflections on calmer days, or use the road itself as a leading line drawing the eye toward the peak. Overcast light softens harsh shadows on the rocky faces, but on clear days the low Arctic sun in golden hour, which can last for a long stretch this far north, wraps the summit in warm tones that contrast beautifully with the cool valley below. A wide angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well to capture both the foreground water and the full height of the peak. Roadside parking is informal but manageable. (Oteren, Troms, Norway)
