Just outside Barry's Bay a short curve of fine sand sits along the clear waters of Wadsworth Lake. The lake sits on a limestone base, so the water runs unusually clean and bright over the pale sand. It is a small, quiet spot that feels like a little hidden gem. The beach lies on the south shore, so you look north across the water so far shoreline stays lit through much of the day. On a still morning the surface goes glassy and mirrors the tree line, so the water does most of the work for you. Shooting low from the sand lets you stretch the reflection. Behind the beach, the shade trees let you frame the lake through their trunks. Warm side light at either end of the day suits the water best, and mist often hangs over the lake at first light. Getting here is easy since the beach sits right along Hopefield Rd. A small free parking lot sits right behind the picnic area, a few steps from the sand. (Barry's Bay, Ontario, Canada)
