Watersprite Lake
Watersprite Lake is a strikingly turquoise alpine lake tucked into a dramatic cirque below the peaks and glaciers of the Tantalus Range, making it one of the most photogenic backcountry destinations accessible from Vancouver. The vivid blue-green water reflects the surrounding cliffs and snowfields, and you will want to work the shoreline to find foreground rocks or wildflowers that anchor your wide-angle compositions. Early morning light is ideal, with soft alpenglow touching the peaks before the sun climbs high and flattens the scene; midday can still work on calm days when the lake surface mirrors the mountains above. The trail begins off the Mamquam and Skookum Forest Service Roads east of Squamish, roughly 1 hour 45 minutes from Vancouver, and the round trip is approximately 7 hours with 650 metres of elevation gain. Pack light but bring a wide-angle and a short telephoto for compressing the peaks. (Squamish, British Columbia, Canada)
