Wellington Church
Wellington Church is a grand neo-classical sandstone church in the West End of Glasgow, with a commanding Corinthian portico and imposing columns that reward architectural photography. The facade faces University Avenue, giving you a strong frontal composition where a wide-angle lens, around 16 to 24mm, helps you capture the full height and symmetry of the columns without stepping too far back into traffic. Shooting slightly off-center from one side brings out the depth of the portico and adds perspective to the stonework. Overcast days are ideal here, as the diffused light brings out the warm honey tones of the sandstone without harsh shadows cutting across the columns. Early morning on weekdays keeps foot traffic low and lets you work the foreground without crowds. The surrounding trees can frame the upper facade nicely in spring and autumn when foliage adds color contrast against the stone. (Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom)
