Wisdom Path

Wisdom Path is a serene hillside installation on Lantau Island where 38 towering wooden columns, each inscribed with verses from the Heart Sutra, are arranged in an infinity figure-eight pattern across an open hillside. The columns vary in height and create natural framing opportunities as they recede into the landscape, with the lush green hills and occasional mist adding depth and atmosphere. Shoot from low angles looking up along the curve of the columns to emphasize their scale, or position yourself at the top of the hill for a wider composition that reveals the full figure-eight layout. Overcast mornings are ideal, as soft diffused light brings out the warm wood tones and carved characters without harsh shadows. A wide-angle lens works well for dramatic close perspectives, while a short telephoto lets you compress the columns into a tighter, more graphic arrangement. The path is a short walk from the Ngong Ping cable car terminal and is rarely crowded in the early morning. (Ngong Ping, Lantau Island, Hong Kong)
