Xiqu Centre is a striking performing arts venue in West Kowloon whose curved, lantern-like facade and woven metal screen panels make it one of Hong Kong's most photogenic modern buildings. The layered exterior, designed to evoke a traditional stage curtain being drawn back, rewards close-up abstract shooting as much as wide environmental shots. A 24-70mm or wide-angle lens works well here; shoot from across the boulevard to capture the full form, or move in tight to isolate the geometric mesh panels and their interplay with light. The building glows warmly at dusk and into the evening when interior lighting illuminates the latticed screen from within, making blue hour your best window. The surrounding West Kowloon Cultural District promenade gives you clean foreground space and room to experiment with symmetry. The entrance courtyard also offers interesting framing opportunities looking upward through the canopy. (Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong)
