Ziemestalbrücke

Five soaring steel trestles carries the Ziemestalbrücke across a wooded valley in the rolling hills near Remptendorf. The viaduct sits 30m above the streambed, all steel with single track on a gentle curve. Crews built it between 1893 and 1895 for the Triptis to Marxgrün railway. Trains stopped running in 1998, the line closed in 2004, and it's been a protected monument since. You can easily capture the viaduct from the valley floor, shooting up through the legs giving you lots of options depending on your photography style. A set of stairs at the foot of the bridge climb up to track level, and a path does the same on the other side. Light is best early and late in the day. Park at the Ottergrund lot off the L2366, which holds only a handful of cars, then follow the Otterbach about 2 km in. Officially, the track itself and the structure are off limits to unauthorized people. The sanctioned way to get out onto the bridge deck is a guided pedal trolley trip from Lückenmühle, run by the Thüringer Oberlandbahn association. This is the perfect location to experiment with drone photography, this allows you to capture the viaduct from above plus include views over the entire valley. (Remptendorf, Thuringia, Germany)
