Abandoned Starbucks
This empty Starbucks along Queen Street East is a rare urban decay find in an otherwise active commercial strip, with its familiar green signage, weathered interiors visible through large plate glass windows, and the contrast between a recognizable corporate shell and neglect making for compelling documentary-style images. Shoot from the sidewalk using the wide storefront windows as natural frames, and look for reflections of the street in the glass to layer the abandoned interior with the busy world outside. Overcast days work best, reducing glare on the windows and giving you even light to expose both the interior details and the exterior facade. A standard zoom around 24 to 50mm handles the compositions well; move close to the glass to cut reflections when needed. The surrounding foot traffic adds a strong juxtaposition if you include passersby in your frame. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
