Al Bastakiya
Al Bastakiya, also known as Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, is one of Dubai's oldest surviving districts, a dense maze of mud-brick courtyard houses topped with traditional wind towers that once cooled interiors before air conditioning existed. The narrow, shaded alleyways create natural frames and strong geometric compositions, and the warm sandy tones of the architecture photograph beautifully in the soft golden light of early morning or late afternoon. Shoot upward to isolate wind towers against the blue sky, or work the tight lanes with a wide angle to emphasize depth and texture. The courtyards inside the various galleries and cultural spaces offer quieter, more intimate compositions. Early morning is ideal before tour groups arrive and the light is still gentle; midday harsh sun flattens the textures you want to bring out. The district is compact and walkable, and a 24-35mm lens handles the narrow lanes well. (Dubai, United Arab Emirates)
