Alnes Fyr is a historic lighthouse from 1852 perched on a rocky headland at the northwestern tip of Godøy Island, surrounded by raw Atlantic coastline and traditional wooden fishing buildings that give the scene a timeless, painterly quality. The red and white lighthouse pairs beautifully with the jagged foreground rocks and crashing waves, so wide angle lenses in the 16 to 24mm range work well for pulling in the texture of the shoreline while keeping the structure prominent in the frame. Shoot from low on the rocks during golden hour for dramatic side lighting, or return after dark between autumn and spring when the Northern Lights frequently appear above the lighthouse in clear conditions. The site is accessible by road via the Godøy tunnel from Ålesund, and parking is close to the headland. Wear sturdy footwear since the rocks can be slippery when wet. (Alnes, Godøy Island, Norway)
