The American Monument stands high atop a cliff on the Oa Peninsula. It was built in 1920 by the American Red Cross to commemorate the loss of two ships in 1918, the Tuscania and the Otranto, overlooking the very spot where the Tuscania sank. The monument is built in the shape of a lighthouse and is visible from many areas on Islay. (Mull of Oa, Isle of Islay, Scotland)
