Angel's Wings
Angel's Wings is an incredible stainless steel sculpture by Thomas Heatherwick sitting in Paternoster Square. The sculpture was designed to mask ventilation for an underground electrical substation. The design is based on experiments with folded paper. It rises about 11 metres high and is made from curved, folded forms which gives it a smooth, flowing shape. Sitting in an open square near St Paul’s Cathedral, it stands out against the surrounding buildings. For photography, the curves and reflective surfaces give you a lot to work with, whether you shoot it straight on or move around to catch different shapes and reflections. It also works well when framed with the surrounding architecture or with St Paul’s in the background. Softer light helps control reflections, while overcast conditions can make the tones more even. It is easy to access and a quick stop when exploring this part of the city. (London, England, United Kingdom)
