Built in the 1750s to carry water into Montpellier, this grand double-tiered aqueduct stretches across the edge of the city with a rhythm of stacked arches that rewards careful framing. Position yourself at ground level and shoot straight down the length of the structure to use the repeating arches as a strong leading line; a wide-angle lens emphasizes the scale, while a longer focal length compresses the tiers and highlights the symmetry. The best light arrives in the morning when the sun rakes across the stonework from the east, bringing out texture and depth in the pale limestone. Late afternoon also works well when warm golden tones soften the facade. The aqueduct runs alongside a residential street and is easy to walk along its full length, giving you multiple vantage points. The junction where the two tiers meet is particularly striking and worth isolating as a detail shot. (Montpellier, Occitanie, France)
