Barrage de la Grande Dixence
The Barrage de la Grande Dixence is the tallest gravity dam in the world, rising 285 meters above the Dix Valley. Surrounded by rugged alpine peaks and fed by glacial waters, the dam creates the Lac des Dix, whose turquoise surface provides a striking contrast to the stark concrete wall. Photographers can capture powerful compositions from the base, the crest, or surrounding hiking trails, with sweeping views over the lake and mountains. A cable car from the valley floor leads close to the top, and guided tours inside the dam are available in summer. Late afternoon light often enhances the textures of both the structure and the surrounding landscape. (Valais, Switzerland)
