Beaconsfield Train Station

Beaconsfield Train Station - Photo by Shawn M. Kent1 / 1

Built in the late 19th century, this charming wooden station along the Vaudreuil-Hudson commuter line has a steeply pitched roof, decorative trim, and warm red and cream paintwork that give it a classic small-town railway character. Position yourself on the platform side to frame the building against incoming trains using a 35mm or 50mm lens, letting the tracks create a natural leading line toward the structure. The low, horizontal profile of the building works well with a slightly wide composition that includes the platform canopy and surrounding trees. Overcast days bring out the rich colours of the exterior without harsh shadows, though golden hour light in the late afternoon hits the facade nicely. The station is publicly accessible, and the area around it is quiet enough that you can set up a tripod without much interference. (Beaconsfield, Quebec, Canada)
