Pointe Claire Windmill
Perched on a rocky point jutting into the St. Lawrence River, this 18th-century stone windmill is one of Quebec's last surviving examples of French colonial mill architecture, and its cylindrical tower and conical roof make for a striking, storybook silhouette. Position yourself low and close with a wide angle lens to emphasize the tower's height against the sky, or pull back with a longer focal length to compress the windmill against the broad river behind it. The surrounding churchyard and mature trees add foreground interest and context. Golden hour light works beautifully here, with warm tones wrapping around the rough stone texture; overcast days can also be rewarding, giving the scene a moody, historic feel. The point is easily walkable and open, giving you room to circle the structure and find clean angles without obstructions. (Pointe Claire, Quebec, Canada)
