Big Beef Bay
Big Beef Bay offers a sweeping rural waterfront scene where a modest highway bridge spans the calm inlet, with Hood Canal stretching into the distance and the snow-capped peaks of the Olympic Mountains, including Mount Olympus and Mount Constance, rising dramatically on the horizon. Position yourself at the top of the hill on Manley Road NW in Seabeck to get the elevated vantage point that layers the bridge, water, and mountains into a single frame. A telephoto lens in the 70-200mm range helps compress the distance and pull the peaks closer to the foreground elements. Morning light works well here, casting soft reflections on the water and illuminating the mountain faces. Keep an eye on tide levels, as higher tides flood the bay with reflective water while lower tides expose mudflats that change the mood considerably. The area is quiet and rural, so parking is limited to roadside pullouts. (Seabeck, Washington, United States)
