About Point White Dock
Point White Pier is a short wooden dock stretching out into Port Orchard Bay, along the southwest shoreline of Bainbridge Island. It used to be a busier spot with the old Mosquito Fleet using it to move people and freight around Puget Sound. Then it spent a few years as a ferry dock. Now it's a small public pier where people fish, drop crab pots and enjoy the views all summer. From the dock you're looking west across the bay at the Kitsap Peninsula, with the Olympics stacked along the horizon on a clear day, and the sun drops down right in front of you. Since this is now a quiet spot you can easily line up from along the shore end and shoot straight down the deck with the rail and pilings as leading lines toward the sunset. At low tide you can get underneath and shoot through the old timber pilings, covered with barnacles from their time below the waterline. A long lens will help you pull the Olympics in tight behind whatever happens to be going across the bay while you are shooting. Plan on staying after sunset into blue hour, when the water turns glassy and the lights on the far shoreline come on. It's easily accessible with a short drive from the Bainbridge ferry terminal and there is a parking lot right along Crystal Springs Dr NE. (Bainbridge Island, Washington, United States)
