Bjargtangar Lighthouse sits at the westernmost point of Iceland, perched on the dramatic cliffs of Látrabjarg where the land drops sharply into the North Atlantic. The compact, utilitarian concrete structure gains much of its character from its surroundings, with vast ocean stretching west and the layered cliff face extending in both directions. Shoot from below the lighthouse to emphasize its position against the sky, or pull back wide to include the cliff edges and the sea far below. A wide angle lens works well here to capture the sense of scale and isolation. Evening light is particularly rewarding as the sun stays low and golden for extended periods in summer, often lingering near the horizon for hours. The road to the site is rough and unpaved, so allow extra travel time; once there, watch your footing near the cliff edges, which have no barriers. (Hvallátur, Westfjords, Iceland)
