Garðar BA 64 is a massive rusting steel hull beached on the tidal flats of Patreksfjörður, and at roughly 85 metres long she dominates the shoreline with a scale that is hard to capture until you are standing next to her. Wide angle lenses work well for getting close to the bow and shooting upward to emphasize the sheer size, while a longer focal length lets you compress the layers of peeling paint and rust from a distance. The surrounding mountains and fjord water reflect beautifully in the wet sand during low tide, so timing your visit around low water gives you strong foreground reflections. Golden hour light, especially in the long Icelandic summer evenings, brings out the deep oranges and reds in the corroded hull. The site is easily reached by a short walk from the road, and you can circle the entire wreck on foot. (Patreksfjörður, Westfjords, Iceland)
