About Borve Beach
Borve Beach sits in a small bay at Na-Buirgh, just off the A859 along the west coast of the Isle of Harris. It is a compact curve of white sand tucked between two rocky points, with blown sand and dunes behind it. The beach looks straight out at the open Atlantic, so the sunset colours are often quite photogenic. Low tide widens the sand and leaves a wet surface that lets you mirror the sky. Early summer brings the machair into flower behind the dunes. Borve Beach is often exposed to the full force of the Atlantic swells. This makes it a popular, though challenging, spot for cold-water surfing. With almost no light pollution, this beach is an amazing spot to experiment with astrophotography. The Milky Way often comes through clearly on a dark night, plus the Northern Lights also make an appearance as well, when conditions line up, low on the northern horizon. The beach is accessible though the fields from along the A859. Parking may be tricky since the road is quite narrow along this stretch and there are quite a few private holiday homes so be careful not to block their parking. (Borve, Isle of Harris, Scotland)
