About Luskentyre Beach
Luskentyre sits peacefully on the west coast of South Harris, looking out over a wide bay at the mouth of an estuary. The sand is pale shell white and the water turns a rich turquoise when the sun is out. Taransay Island lies a mile or so offshore. At low tide the white sand spreads well into the bay adding to the beach's peaceful feel. The retreating tide also leaves behind little channels of water and sandbars that stretch out right across the bay. The beach is backed by rolling dunes and to the north the North Harris hills add a great background. From the beach itself the sun drops behind the hills and Taransay Island during sunset. Machair flowers come out along the back of the dunes in late spring and summer. White ponies wander the sands here, if you are very lucky one might appear while you are shooting. The Losgaintir Road brings you right to the end of the point and brings you to a small free car park. It does fill fast in summer so you probably want to time your shooting adventure for early or late in the day to avoid having to shoot around beachgoers. (Luskentyre, Isle of Harris, Scotland)
