Bugsfoss

Bugsfoss is a compact, tiered waterfall just outside Ólafsvík on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, where water drops over dark basalt ledges into a shallow pool below. The stepped structure makes it ideal for long exposures, letting you smooth out the flow while keeping the sharp texture of the volcanic rock visible in the frame. Get low and close to emphasize the tiers, or step back slightly to include the mossy surroundings and open Icelandic sky for a wider landscape composition. A wide to standard zoom in the 16-35mm range works well here. Overcast days are your best friend at this location since flat light reduces harsh shadows and brings out the greens of the moss, though golden hour adds warmth if the sky cooperates. The waterfall sits right off the road with no trail required, making it a quick and rewarding stop. (Ólafsvík, Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Iceland)
