Kerlingarfoss
Kerlingarfoss drops in a tall, elegant curtain over a dark basalt cliff face, framed by rolling green hills and open farmland on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The scale of the falls relative to the surrounding landscape gives you plenty of compositional options, from tight shots isolating the cascading water against the rock to wide-angle frames that include the sweeping hillsides and often grazing sheep in the foreground. A wide lens in the 16-24mm range works well to capture the full scene, while a longer focal length lets you compress the background hills for a more dramatic look. Overcast days are ideal, softening the contrast and bringing out the rich greens of the grass and the deep tones of the wet basalt. The site is reached via a short gravel road and requires almost no walking, making it straightforward to visit in most weather conditions. (Snæfellsnes Peninsula, West Iceland, Iceland)
