Cadillac Summit Loop View
Perched near the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, this viewpoint along the Summit Loop trail offers a sweeping panorama looking out over Eastern Bay and the surrounding islands of the Maine coast. The combination of open granite slabs, distant water, and scattered islands gives you a lot to work with compositionally. Try using the pink granite foreground rocks as a base layer, leading the eye out toward the bay, or find a higher vantage point along the trail to compress the layers of islands into the frame. A wide angle lens works well for capturing the full sweep of the scene, while a telephoto can isolate individual islands. This summit is famously the first place on the eastern seaboard to catch sunrise, so arriving before dawn rewards you with warm alpenglow across the rocks and glittering light on the water.
