About Capanna Cadlimo CAS
Capanna Cadlimo CAS (also known as the Cadlimohütte) is a Swiss Alpine Club hut sitting at 2,500m in the mountains above Airolo. From the terrace on a clear day, the view stretches out across the Southern Alps to the high peaks of Valais, with the Gotthard range close by. Lago di Dentro lies just below the hut to the south, one of a cluster of small blue lakes tucked between grey rock ridges and patches of alpine grass. Summer fills the surrounding meadows with wildflowers to dot the green slopes surrounding the hut. On calm days, the lakes along the trails create clean reflections of the surrounding peaks. Because the hut sits on the sunny south side of the ridge, the terrace gets good light well into the day. Most people start at the top of the Ritom funicular above Piotta, one of the steepest in Europe, then hike in to the hut. It takes about three hours and the route winds past a chain of lakes including the dark blue Lago Scuro, so there are lots of photogenic views alon the way. There's also a route up from the Lukmanier Pass. The hut is staffed in from the early summer into early autumn. You can spend the night, but that usually needs to be booked in advance. If you do stay overnight it's also an amazing spot to experiment with astrophotography. (Airolo, Ticino, Switzerland)
