Capelinha de Nossa Senhora de Fátima sits high on a hillside overlooking the lush valley of São Vicente on Madeira’s north coast. This small white chapel is simple but incredibly photogenic, especially with the dramatic green mountains rising all around it. A short walk and staircase lead up to the chapel, and once you reach the top you’re rewarded with wide views over the town, winding roads, and steep volcanic slopes that define this part of the island. It’s a great spot for photographers who enjoy mixing landscape and architectural elements in a single frame. Early morning and late afternoon tend to produce the nicest light, and low clouds often drift through the valley which can add a lot of atmosphere to your shots. The climb is a little steep but short, making this an easy stop while exploring the São Vicente area and Madeira’s scenic north coast. (São Vicente, Madeira, Portugal)
