Castel Grumello (Grumello Castle)
Castel Grumello sits above Montagna in Valtellina, with its stone ruins spread across a hillside overlooking the valley. The castle is split into two distinct sections, which gives you a bit more to work with composition wise as you move around the site. From up here, you get wide views across the Valtellina valley, with terraced vineyards and mountains stretching out in the distance. The mix of old stone walls, open grass, and layered landscape makes it easy to switch between tighter detail shots and wider scenes. You can also use the ruins themselves to frame the valley or add depth to your compositions. The walk up is short but steady, and once you are there, it is easy to explore different angles without much effort.
