Preda Rossa
Preda Rossa is a remote alpine valley in the Valmasino area of the Lombardy Alps, where the dramatic granite walls of Monte Disgrazia tower above a rugged glacial landscape of boulders, streams, and wildflower meadows. The interplay of reddish and gray rock faces against permanent snowfields gives the scene a raw, painterly quality that rewards wide compositions anchored by foreground detail. Morning light hits the upper peaks first, casting warm alpenglow across the granite before the valley floor receives direct sun, so an early start pays off. A 16-35mm lens handles the scale well, while a longer focal length lets you compress the glacier against the ridgeline. The trail from the Preda Rossa refuge is the main access point; the area around the stream crossings and boulder fields offers strong leading lines toward the massif. The path is straightforward but requires good footwear. (Val Masino, Province of Sondrio, Italy)
