Château des Charmes
Château des Charmes is a working winery estate in the heart of Niagara wine country, where tidy rows of grapevines stretch across gently rolling terrain toward a elegant French-inspired château that looks almost out of place in southern Ontario. The vineyard rows make excellent leading lines, especially when shot low and wide with a 24-35mm lens to emphasize the depth and symmetry of the plantings. Position yourself at the ends of the vine rows in either direction for strong geometric compositions, or step back toward the road for a wider establishing shot with the château as your focal point. Golden hour light in late afternoon wraps the stone building beautifully and rakes across the vines to bring out texture. Late summer and autumn are the most rewarding seasons, when the foliage turns and clusters of grapes add color to the scene. The property is accessible and the grounds are welcoming to visitors.
