Abandoned Bridge
This abandoned railway bridge spans the Niagara River between Ontario and New York State, its rusted steel trusses and weathered concrete piers making it a compelling subject for industrial and decay photography. From the Canadian shoreline, you get a strong broadside view of the full structure, and you can use the riverbank or rocky water's edge to anchor a foreground while the bridge stretches toward the American side. A longer focal length, around 70-200mm, helps you compress the layers of steel and isolate the texture of deteriorating metal. Early morning light from the east catches the bridge face-on and adds warmth to the rust tones, while overcast days flatten the light and bring out the gritty detail without harsh shadows. Access along the Canadian bank is straightforward, and shooting low near the water gives you reflections on calm days. Keep an eye on river conditions as the shoreline can be uneven and slippery.
