Clovelly Beach
Clovelly Beach is a narrow, sheltered ocean inlet cut into Sydney's sandstone coastline, offering a uniquely geometric composition that sets it apart from typical beaches. The concrete promenades running along both sides of the bay create strong leading lines that draw the eye toward the open ocean, and shooting from either platform gives you a symmetrical corridor of calm turquoise water framed by golden rock. Sunrise is the standout session here, with warm light flooding into the inlet from the east and reflecting off the still water before swimmers arrive. A wide angle lens between 16mm and 24mm works well to capture the full length of the bay, while a longer focal length lets you isolate the geometric patterns of the concrete against the sea. The platforms are easily accessible with no entry fees, and arriving 20 minutes before sunrise gives you the best light with minimal crowds. (Clovelly, New South Wales, Australia)
