Costa Calma Beach

Costa Calma Beach is the white sand strip below the resort town of Costa Calma in southern Fuerteventura. At low tide it stretches out about 2km down the coastline. The beachfront opens to the east. which means sunrise happens straight out over the ocean. The variety of colour can be amazing to work with here. Greenery behind the beach and rich blue water separate into visible bands over the shallows, and a polarizer gives you control over how hard that reads. Shoot from the steps at the access points for a bit of height, which stacks the sand, the water and the hills into one frame. Wet sand at low tide adds the chance to experiment with reflections. The southern end often fills up with windsurfers and kitesurfers, so you can play around with adding movement against the water. Access is public and free, and there are lifeguards during the summer. There is no dedicated beach car park, but there is lots of space to park along the streets running down toward the sand. (Costa Calma, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain)
