Croce del Pratomagno
Perched at over 1,500 meters on the ridge of the Pratomagno massif, this towering iron cross commands one of Tuscany's most expansive panoramas, with views stretching from Florence and the Valdarno valley on one side to the Casentino forests and Lake Trasimeno on the other. The cross itself makes a powerful foreground subject; shoot from low and close with a wide angle to emphasize its scale against the sky, or pull back to use it as a silhouette at sunrise or sunset when the valleys below fill with soft mist. Golden hour light raking across the open ridge is exceptional, and the elevation means you are often shooting above a sea of clouds in autumn and winter. The summit is reachable by gravel road or hiking trails, making it manageable with a full kit. Clear, moonlit nights also reward astrophotographers with minimal light pollution.
