Croft Alley is one of Melbourne's lesser-known laneways, a narrow winding passage covered floor to ceiling in layered, evolving street art that changes regularly as new work goes up over old. The tight walls and compressed perspective make it ideal for wide angle shots, where you can use the receding alley as a strong leading line while the surrounding murals create natural framing on either side. Overcast days work best here, as the laneway is too shadowed for direct sun and flat light brings out the saturation of the colours without harsh contrast. Walk through slowly and look for sections where complementary colours or strong graphic shapes align, rather than trying to capture the whole alley in one shot. A 16-35mm lens gives you the compression and environmental context you need. The alley runs off Little Bourke Street and is open and walkable at any hour. (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia)
