Princes Bridge is a elegant sandstone crossing over the Yarra River, dating back to 1888, and the contrast between its classical architecture and the modern Melbourne skyline behind it makes for one of the city's most compelling compositions. Position yourself on the riverbank near Hamer Hall, slightly upstream, to frame the bridge with the CBD towers rising behind it; a wide angle lens works well here to capture both the foreground detail and the full skyline. Shooting from river level lets you use the water as a reflective element, especially on calm mornings when the surface is still. Blue hour and sunrise are the sweet spots, giving you soft gradients in the sky and artificial lights still glowing on the bridge and buildings. The area is fully accessible along a paved riverside path, and you have plenty of room to shift your position and adjust framing. (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia)
