Treasury Place offers a stately row of nineteenth-century bluestone and sandstone government buildings that form one of Melbourne's most elegant streetscapes, with consistent classical facades creating strong symmetry and rhythm. Walk the length of the street and look for a low angle that lets the building line converge toward a vanishing point, compressing the architecture into a satisfying leading line. A medium telephoto lens, something in the 50 to 85mm range, works well for flattening perspective and emphasising the repetition of columns and arched windows. This spot earns its reputation after dark, when warm artificial lighting illuminates the stonework and the street lamps add depth and atmosphere; blue hour is particularly rewarding because the sky retains just enough colour to balance the artificial glow. The street is quiet and easy to access on foot from the city centre, and there is usually very little traffic to contend with during evening hours. (East Melbourne, Victoria, Australia)
