Djupvatnet is a high-altitude mountain lake in the Norwegian highlands, sitting at around 1,000 meters elevation with dramatic cliffs dropping almost directly into the dark, still water. The lake's deep color contrasts beautifully against the surrounding rocky peaks and, in season, lingering patches of snow. County Road 63 runs along the northern shore, giving you easy pullout spots to work from without needing to hike far. Shoot along the shoreline to use the reflections and the road as leading lines toward the mountains, or get low near the water's edge to emphasize the cliff faces rising above you. Overcast days actually work well here, softening the light and deepening the lake's color, while clear mornings offer sharp reflections. A wide angle lens suits the scale of the landscape, though a short telephoto helps isolate the cliffs and compression. (Stranda Municipality, Møre og Romsdal, Norway)
