Standing across the fjord by boat or from the opposite shore, you are looking at seven distinct streams freefalling roughly 250 meters down a sheer cliff face directly into the Geirangerfjord, one of the most dramatic waterfall compositions in Europe. The classic shot frames all seven cascades together with the deep blue-green fjord in the foreground and the steep valley walls on either side; a wide angle lens in the 16 to 24mm range works well here. Late May through July is the peak window, when snowmelt pushes all seven streams to full flow simultaneously. Taking a fjord cruise gets you closest and lets you adjust your distance for tighter or wider compositions. Overcast days soften the contrast on the cliff face and bring out the greens, while clear mornings offer reflections on calmer water. From shore, the viewpoint near the Geiranger village waterfront gives a solid static perspective if you prefer steady ground underfoot. (Geiranger, Møre og Romsdal, Norway)
