Dominion Arboretum
Tucked along the western edge of Dow's Lake and the Rideau Canal, the Dominion Arboretum is a 26-hectare living collection of mature trees, open meadows, and winding paths that shifts dramatically with the seasons. Spring brings flowering crabapples and magnolias in soft pink and white, fall turns the canopy into a warm palette of oranges and reds, and winter coats the bare branches in frost or snow for a quieter, more graphic kind of shot. Walk the canal-side path to combine natural foreground elements with views across the water toward the city. Wide angles work well for capturing canopy tunnels and open lawn scenes, while a longer lens lets you isolate individual trees or compress layers of colour. Morning light filters beautifully through the leaves and avoids harsh midday shadows. The grounds are flat and fully walkable with no entry fee, making it easy to explore at a slow pace and let the light come to you. (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)
