Eiganes Cemetery is one of Stavanger's most atmospheric locations, a historic burial ground dating back to the 19th century with tree-lined paths, ornate headstones, and manicured grounds that open up to views toward the fjord. The combination of weathered stonework, flowering trees, and soft northern light makes it rewarding to visit across seasons. In spring, the cherry and fruit trees burst into bloom, creating canopies of pink and white that frame the gravestones beautifully; shoot low and angle upward to layer blossoms against the sky. Overcast days work especially well here, softening shadows and bringing out the muted greens and greys of the stone. Early morning gives you the place largely to yourself. A 35mm or 50mm lens suits the intimate scale of the paths, while a longer focal length helps compress the rows of monuments into layered compositions. (Stavanger, Rogaland, Norway)
