Perched on the north bank of the IJ waterway directly across from Amsterdam Centraal, EYE Filmmuseum is one of the most striking pieces of contemporary architecture in the city, with its angular white facade jutting out over the water like a geometric wave. The building's sharp overhangs, irregular surfaces, and reflective glass make it endlessly interesting for architectural photography. Shoot from the free ferry landing for a clean wide-angle composition with the water in the foreground, or get low on the riverbank to exaggerate the cantilevered overhang against the sky. Overcast days soften the contrast on the white exterior and keep details sharp, while golden hour adds warm tones that contrast beautifully with the stark white surfaces. A 24-35mm lens works well for the full building, but move in close to isolate the angular details for abstract shots. The ferry from Centraal Station takes two minutes and runs continuously.
