Flor & Fjære is a privately owned tropical garden sprawling across a small island near Stavanger, covering 12.5 acres with over 50,000 flowering annuals planted each spring alongside palms, banana trees, and exotic specimens that feel impossibly lush given the Norwegian latitude. The contrast between the wild Nordic coastline and the riot of color here makes for genuinely striking images. Work the winding garden paths as natural leading lines, and look for tight compositions where bold flower clusters frame glimpses of the fjord beyond. Midday light can be harsh in summer, so aim for morning arrivals when the garden opens, or shoot on overcast days when soft, even light makes colors pop without blown highlights. A mid-range zoom around 24-70mm handles both wide establishing shots and compressed floral details well. The island is reached by boat from Stavanger, so plan around the ferry schedule.
