Gas Works Park
Gas Works Park sits on the north shore of Lake Union, where the rusting towers and industrial structures of a former coal gasification plant create one of the most striking urban backdrops in the Pacific Northwest. The decommissioned machinery gives you strong foreground interest, and pairing those weathered structures against the Seattle skyline across the water makes for a composition you won't find anywhere else. Shoot from the grassy hill behind the towers for an elevated view that puts the city, lake, and industrial ruins all in the same frame, or get low near the waterline to emphasize reflections. Golden hour light warms the rust and steel beautifully, and blue hour gives the skyline a clean glow behind the silhouetted structures. A wide angle lens handles the scale well, though a short telephoto lets you compress the skyline against the foreground. The park is free, open, and easy to walk around.
