Wall of Death
Tucked beneath the University Bridge, this circular concrete structure is a full-scale replica of the classic carnival Wall of Death, a vertical cylinder where daredevil riders once defied gravity. The curved wooden interior creates strong leading lines and a sense of depth that rewards wide-angle lenses in the 16-24mm range. Step inside and shoot upward to emphasize the cylinder's geometry against the sky framed at the top, or position yourself low and wide to exaggerate the curve of the walls. Overcast days work well here since the structure sits in open shade under the bridge, reducing harsh shadows and keeping the wood tones even. The space is publicly accessible and free to visit; foot traffic is generally light, so you usually have room to experiment. Look for interesting details like the weathered wood grain and painted signage for tighter compositional shots as well. (Seattle, Washington, United States)
