Gooderham Building
The Gooderham Building is one of Toronto's most recognizable landmarks, a red brick flatiron from 1892 that tapers to a dramatic curved point where Wellington Street East meets Front Street. The narrow wedge shape makes it naturally compelling to photograph, and your best compositions come from standing directly in front of that pointed facade and using a wide angle lens to emphasize the building's triangular form against the sky. The alley behind the building reveals a striking trompe l'oeil mural painted on the flat back wall, giving you a completely different and surreal image to capture. Overcast days work well for bringing out the rich brick tones without harsh shadows, while blue hour adds drama and warmth from the lit windows. The surrounding streets stay busy, so early morning gives you cleaner shots with fewer people and cars in the frame. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
