Perched on the rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, this overlook gives you a sweeping bird's-eye view down into the vivid yellow and white rhyolite canyon walls, with the Yellowstone River cutting through the gorge far below and dense evergreen forest stretching to the horizon. Position yourself along the railing and shoot wide, around 16 to 24mm, to capture the full scale of the canyon and the river bends leading your eye through the frame. Morning light is ideal, when the sun hits the canyon walls at an angle and brings out the warm golden and ochre tones in the rock. Midday can wash out contrast, so aim for early hours or overcast days for even, saturated color. The overlook is a short, paved walk from a small parking area and is accessible for most visitors, though the rim edge is unfenced in spots so watch your footing.
