Gregory Casey Stormwater Park
This quiet urban nature park centers on a calm reflective pond ringed by reeds, mature trees, and open sky, making it a surprisingly productive spot for landscape and wildlife photography. The still water gives you clean mirror reflections of surrounding vegetation and clouds, especially in the early morning before any wind picks up. Position yourself low along the water's edge to flatten the perspective and maximize the reflection, or work the perimeter trail to find natural frames using reeds and overhanging branches. Great Blue Herons and Egrets are regular visitors and tend to stand motionless near the shallower edges, giving you time to compose carefully. A medium telephoto in the 200-400mm range works well for birds, while a wide angle captures the full pond and sky. Sunrise brings soft, diffused light and calm conditions ideal for reflections, and the park is flat and easily walkable year-round. (Nepean, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)
