Stoney Swamp
Stoney Swamp is a quiet wetland within the NCC Greenbelt that offers reflective open water, dead snags, and rich marsh vegetation that make it a rewarding natural subject year-round. The best compositions come from the viewpoints just off the Lime Kiln Trail, where you can frame the still water with foreground reeds or position a lone standing tree against the sky. Late afternoon and early evening are ideal, as the low sun comes in from the west and casts warm light across the ponds while creating strong reflections on calm days. A mid-range zoom works well for landscape shots, but a longer lens lets you pull in waterfowl and other wildlife without disturbing them. Autumn is particularly striking when the surrounding foliage turns, and winter visits can yield dramatic scenes with ice and frost on the dead wood. Parking is accessible from West Hunt Club Road.
