Grossmünster

The Grossmünster's twin Romanesque towers rise above the Limmat River and define the Zurich skyline, making it one of the most photographed buildings in Switzerland. From street level, the best exterior shots come from the opposite bank of the Limmat, where you can frame both towers reflected in the water, especially in the soft light of early morning before crowds arrive. A wide angle lens works well for the full facade, while a longer focal length helps compress the towers against the rooftops behind them. If you climb the 187 steps to the tower platform, you get an outstanding elevated perspective over the old town, lake, and Alps on clear days, with golden hour light warming the red rooftops below you. The tower is open to visitors for a small fee and the climb is straightforward; go on a clear morning for the best chance of Alpine views on the horizon. (Zurich, Switzerland)
